“Our relationship with the wilderness is not just about preserving it for future generations but also about healing ourselves in the process.”

~ Dr Ian McCallum

Hugging the banks of the Orange River, the Sandfontein Nature Reserve spans a pristine, ecologically vital landscape larger than the island of Singapore. Here, the rhythms of nature reign supreme: wildlife outnumbers guests by more than 300 to one, ensuring an intimate connection with the land.

Recognised by Quiet Parks International as a certified Quiet Stay, Sandfontein offers rare, untamed stillness. To protect this delicate auditory and natural ecosystem, our entire operation is powered by solar energy, ensuring a light footprint and complete serenity.

In partnership with the Orange River-Karoo Conservation Area (ORKCA), Sandfontein drives an ambitious vision of ecological repair. As a dedicated steward of the land, we collaborate with ORKCA to create a vital conservation corridor where wildlife, ancient landscapes, and local communities thrive together. Over the years, we have continually expanded our boundaries, reintroduced indigenous species, and honored our commitment to rewilding. Sustainability is woven into every detail of our hospitality, from eco-friendly architecture built with local materials to organic fruits and vegetables cultivated along the Orange River.

By choosing to stay with us, guests directly fund ongoing habitat preservation and wildlife protection across the reserve.

"Silence is the think-tank of the soul"
