A personal dining experience

You won’t find any big, hotel-style buffets at Sandfontein. Every dish is prepared to order, using plenty of Namibian flavours, and the focus is always on fresh local ingredients.

Like everything at Sandfontein, dining is a very relaxed and personal experience. There aren’t any menus (this helps to ensure that the freshest possible ingredients are being used at all times) and care is taken to cater to every dietary need. If there’s anything staff can help with, just ask.

When possible, sun-nourished vegetables are taken straight from the reserve’s organic garden and into the kitchen. This is where Sandfontein’s famous homemade bread is sprinkled with delicious sesame seeds, baked, and left to cool. In the mornings, let the smell of freshly brewed coffee lead you to breakfast, where platters of plump, flavoursome fruit await. Later in the day, you’ll get the chance to try Sandfontein’s melt-in-the-mouth homemade game sausage, which smells irresistibly meaty, as does the tender, juicy lamb, which is sourced locally. For an authentic experience, join staff around the sizzling coals of the braai, a traditional Afrikaans-style barbecue that gives food a wonderful smoky flavour.

After an evening on the reserve and a sundowner by the Orange River, there’s nothing better than heading back to eat at the candlelit lodge. Choose to dine privately by the pool, or socialise around the long, hardwood table on the lodge’s breezy veranda – either way, you’ll love the whole experience.
